10 Easy and Healthy Do-It-Yourself Snacks

Okay so you’re a busy mom, busy student, and/or busy professional. Whatever the case may be, you’re just a woman who is always on the run, but doesn’t want to resort to convenient fast food when you get hungry. Don’t fret; I have gathered some easy, flavorful, and healthy recipes designed to satisfy those cravings that sneak up on you anytime of the day.

  1. Crackers with Chocolate-Hazelnut Spread and Banana

Spread 2 crisp bread crackers each with ½ tablespoon of chocolate-hazelnut spread. Top with banana slices.f1

  1. Ham and Jicama Wraps

Wrap 6 jicama or celery sticks with ½ slice of ham each. Serve with 1 teaspoon of whole-grain mustard for dipping.f2

  1. Bagel with Ricotta and Strawberries

Spread half of a toasted whole-grain “flat” bagel with 2 tablespoons of fresh ricotta. Top with ⅓ cup of sliced strawberries. Drizzle with 1 teaspoon of honey or agave nectar.

  1. Whole-Grain Bread with Almond Butter and Peaches

Spread 2 teaspoons of almond butter on 1 slice of toasted whole-grain bread. Top with slices of half a peach.f4

  1. Hummus Veggie Wrap

Make a wrap with a whole-wheat tortilla, hummus, sliced cucumber, and crumbled feta. Add any other veggies you enjoy.

  1. Rice Cake with Peanut Butter, Coconut, and Dried Cherries

Spread 1 rice cake with 1 tablespoon of creamy peanut butter. Sprinkle with 2 teaspoons of toasted unsweetened shredded coconut and 2 teaspoons of dried cherries.f6

  1. Banana Strawberry Smoothie

Combine 1 ½ cups of orange juice, 1 tablespoon of lime juice, 1 cup of sliced strawberries, and 1 to 1 ½ ripe bananas in a blender and process until smooth. Refrigerate until cold.

  1. Frog on a Log

I’m sure you heard of ants on a log, but here’s a fun twist. Spread a celery stalk with a tablespoon of cream cheese. Top with olives.

  1. DIY Trail Mix

Make your own trail mix by combining unsalted nuts, dried fruit, pretzels, sunflower or pumpkin seeds, and dark chocolate.

  1. Cheesy Popcorn

Toss 4 cups of hot air-popped popcorn with ½ cup of Parmesan and cayenne to taste.
