Tennis pro Serena Williams and soccer midfielder Carli Lloyd were each named 2015 Sportswoman of the Year by the Women’s Sports Foundation (WSF) for individual and team sports respectively. These two phenomenal athletes had stellar seasons—the world couldn’t help but notice!
Serena Williams, Tennis
This is the second time winning the prestigious WSF honor for Serena, who was also recently named Player of the Year by the Women’s Tennis Association fourth straight year in a row, seventh time overall. Her first Sportswoman of the Year honor came in 2000 when she won the team award with her doubles partner and sister, Venus Williams.
Serena, a four-time Olympic champion, was unstoppable during the WSF timeframe (running from August 2014 through July 31 2015). Serena won all four Grand Slam tournaments, taking home 1) her sixth US Open title, 2) her sixth Australia Open title, 3) her third French Open title and 4) her sixth Wimbledon title. Incredible!

Carli Lloyd, Soccer
Carli, a two-time Olympic champ, led the United States to its third title in the FIFA World Cup—and became the first female in the history of the game to score a hat trick in any senior FIFA World Cup final. Hat trick? It’s scoring three goals in the same game without any other goals interrupting. Carli is also the first woman in history to score the quickest goal in Women’s World Cup finals at two minutes, 35 seconds.
And she was awarded the Golden Ball as the tournament’s MVP, and she brought home the Silver Boot for being its second highest scorer. During the WSF timeframe, Carli scored a ridiculous 19 international goals. Ah-mazing!

The Sportswoman of the Year Award is presented to athletes who exhibit exceptional performances over a 12-month period. Finalists are selected and voted on by the public and the WSF Awards Committee. These awesome women are raising the bar for all athletes. How cool is it that?
